Looking to land an internship that truly makes an impact? Who better to ask for advice than those who have just completed the journey. This summer, our incredible interns gave us the inside scoop, sharing their firsthand advice on how to thrive at Toast, make the most of your experience, and contribute in a meaningful way.

“From day one, put yourself out there. You would be surprised how receptive everyone is to helping out, giving you advice, and pushing you along. Not a single time I asked to chat or asked for help did I get told no: the community feeling is genuine, take advantage of it!”

- James R., Toast.org Intern, Cornell University ‘26

“My primary piece of advice for future interns would be to embrace curiosity and proactivity. Go beyond the specific tasks assigned to you and take the initiative to understand how your project connects to Toast's broader mission of empowering the restaurant community. Ask questions—not just about the "what" and "how" of your work, but also the "why."

- Sasank S., Software Engineer Intern, Vellore Institute of Technology AP ’25

“My advice for future interns at Toast would be to talk to as many people within the organization as you can. The people truly make the place, and it is very easy to have conversations with Toasters at all levels of the company. Everyone is willing to provide insights into their roles and experiences, which is very impactful for an intern who is trying to decide which career path to take.”

- Grace B., Talent Development Intern, Indiana University ‘26

“There are so many talented engineers at Toast! Make sure to learn as much as you can from them.”

- Riley B., Software Engineer Intern, Princeton ‘27

“Come in with an open mind: be ready to learn new technologies, adapt to different ways of working, and ask questions. The more curious and flexible you are, the more you’ll get out of the experience!”

- April R., Software Engineer Intern: Data Platform Team, MIT ‘27

“Your supervisor, leaders, and Toasters want to see you succeed. Ask away, do not be afraid to schedule that coffee chat, and connect!”

- Johanny M., Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Intern, Union College ‘26

“My advice to future interns at Toast is to be curious- ask questions, learn about what other Toasters do, and take risks, whether that means initiating a coffee chat or sharing ideas in meetings. Make the most of every moment!”

- Ella C., Toast.org Social Impact Intern, Villanova ‘27

“Be proactive in seeking feedback, make the most of the supportive culture, and don’t hesitate to reach out—everyone here is willing to help you grow. Embrace the spirit and try to be a true Toaster.”

- Naveen B., Software Engineer Intern, IIIT Allahabad ‘25

Curiosity, a willingness to learn, and a passion for our mission—these are the key ingredients for a successful internship at Toast, according to those who know best.
