At Toast, we aim to foster a diverse company culture that celebrates the uniqueness we all bring to the table. One way we do this is through our Toast Communities, also known as employee resource groups. Currently we have 15 Toast Communities that support a wide variety of Toaster identities. 

ToastHER is our community for women at Toast. Hear from Rebekah, co-chair of the ToastHER board, to learn more about how this community has grown over the years, and the different ways they celebrate women, not only during Women’s History Month, but also year-round!

While looking for a new role in 2021, it was important to me to find a “work home.” That sense of community is what initially drew me to Toast. Throughout my job application process, I was immediately impressed with the focus that Toast put on supporting employees, particularly through Toast Communities. 

I officially joined Toast in August of 2021, and I was immediately drawn to the ToastHER Community. I joined as a member right away, and I had the privilege of becoming co-chair of the ToastHER board in spring of 2022.

Once I became a Toaster, I was truly able to see how much of an impact the Toast Communities had on the company as a whole. As a member of multiple Toast Communities, I have found additional welcoming, supportive spaces to ask questions, seek advice, and build connections with many people I might not interact with in my day-to-day work. I couldn't imagine life at Toast without this support system!

Professionally, it has always been important for me to find spaces that empower and support women. No matter your role in life or work, challenges just always seem to arise (funny, isn't that?).

As a full-time working woman and even more full-time mama, I know I can't make it alone. Having a support system has been game changing for me, and communities like ToastHER give me the lift I frequently need to keep challenging norms and pushing myself to new bars in both my work and mom life.

While ToastHER has been around for quite some time, we had the opportunity for a refresh in 2022. We reignited efforts by launching a ToastHER board, and we've put considerable time and energy into building a community for all women where we empower each other to thrive. 

Rooted in a spirit of inclusivity and belonging, we provide opportunities to connect, learn, and grow with one another. Whether in person or remote, you can engage with the ToastHER community through Slack, meetups, fireside chats and connection events, or by leaning on our resources to empower our incredible group of women.

One of my favorite moments of 2022 was the launch of our ToastHER global chapter in India. Empowering women across the globe is incredibly important to us. During the official opening week of our offices in Bangalore and Chennai, ToastHER hosted a lunch to welcome our newest members, and also came together to pack 100 wellness kits for women in partnership with a local non-profit. With a great turnout including attendance from executive women leaders across the org, this strong and compassionate group of women have begun building great connections and a sense of belonging in our community.

The ToastHER board is so excited for all that we have planned for Women’s History Month. We’ll be bringing together women at Toast and our allies for a multitude of events focused on women empowerment, career growth, and overcoming challenges. We’re planning inspiring fireside chats with some of Toast’s incredible women leaders, as well as opportunities to hear from Toast customers who are paving the way for future women leaders in the restaurant industry. We’re also looking forward to some friendly competition through trivia night, and an opportunity to network and connect with fellow ToastHER members in a more casual conversational setting.
