Inside the People & Places Internship Experience

At Toast, our culture is created every day by the people who work here. This summer, our People & Places interns had a unique opportunity to not only experience our culture firsthand but also to help shape it. We sat down with our recent People & Places interns to hear their reflections on what it’s like to work in a culture they helped to foster.

Why did you choose to intern at Toast?

"What continues to inspire me is how Toast has stayed true to its mission despite significant growth. By consistently prioritizing customers and empowering restaurants to run more efficiently, Toast has made a meaningful impact on the hospitality industry.

Beyond that, I deeply admire Toast's commitment to social impact- particularly Toast.org's initiatives to alleviate food insecurity and support local communities. As someone who values connection and giving back, I’m especially drawn to the way Toast combines innovation with purpose which is one of many reasons I chose to intern at Toast!"

- Ella C., Toast.org Social Impact Intern, Villanova ‘27

“Their mission, culture and values caught my attention!”

- Johanny M., Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Intern, Union College ‘26

“I had interest in the food industry after working at a local food hub nonprofit in my hometown for the past two summers, but I wanted to get corporate experience before I graduated. I was interested in Toast because of its placement within the restaurant space and its passion for helping restaurants succeed. The employer branding and recruitment experience is what ultimately sold me on the company: the very clear mission and values Toast embodies within itself and its approach to hiring convinced me that it was truly living out its values.”

- James R., Toast.org Intern, Cornell University ‘26

“I chose to intern at Toast because I was familiar with their products, as I used them in my high school job as a hostess. I loved the fact that Toast is an upbeat tech company that continues to innovate every day, and this is what really drew me in.”

- Grace B., Talent Development Intern, Indiana University ‘26

What was your favorite part of the internship?

“My favorite part of the internship was connecting with my intern/co-op peers and other Toasters whose support, kindness, and openness made every conversation feel inspiring and welcoming.”

- Ella C., Toast.org Social Impact Intern, Villanova ‘27

“My favorite part of the internship was working on talent development materials that actually have an impact on the organization and can ultimately assist employee growth, driving more performance and career conversations.”

- Grace B., Talent Development Intern, Indiana University ‘26

Describe the company culture in one word—and share why you chose that word.

“Inclusive. Toast is a company that hires people from all backgrounds and constantly fosters diversity, equity, and inclusion in everything they do. As someone with a chronic illness, I have always felt supported by my fellow Toasters and know that they truly want the best for me. This is very uplifting for individuals who may be struggling with non-visible illnesses.”

- Grace B., Talent Development Intern, Indiana University ‘26

“Genuine. Everyone wants the best for you and will look out for you. Toasters care for each other!”

- Johanny M., Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Intern, Union College ‘26
