A Day In The Life
"I recently suffered the death of a family member. In moments like these, you are generally very vulnerable. However, I was able to get back up on my feet pretty quickly with the help of my co-workers. I appreciate everyone here. "
What's the hardest challenge you've had thus far in your job?
I recently suffered the death of a family member. In moments like these, you are generally very vulnerable. However, I was able to get back up on my feet pretty quickly with the help of my co-workers. I appreciate everyone here.
What's the project you're most proud of? Can you share a link?
I am working as a Software Engineer on Data Analytics team at Toast. I am part of the team that is building a reporting and analytics framework for running faster reports on large datasets and providing useful analytics to the Toast users using Spark and Java.
What's an example of a time you worked with another part of the organization on a project?
Toast recently piloted the 'Toast2Toast' mentorship program. As a part of this ongoing program, I get to collaborate with and learn from both my mentors as well as our Engineering HR Business Partner. It is fun to reflect on where you are in your career and where you want to eventually be. Mentors have played vital role in my journey as a programmer and as a human being. I love to hangout with my mentors and talk about things like technical fluency, work life balance and more often than not 'Mexican food'.
What is the tech stack built upon?
Toast follows a Java micro services architecture. Most of the teams use Java, Hibernate, rabbitMQ and postgres. We also have a team which works on building APIs for handheld Android tablets. The technical stack that I work on involves a lot of Java, Spark, Spark SQL, some Scala code and postgres.
