We are seeking a Director of Product Design with a deep passion for crafting exceptional user experiences to shape our Team Suite products. At Toast, this includes team management and scheduling, which supports over 2 million employees clocking in daily, and payroll, which processes billions of dollars annually to get our customers’ employees paid on time. On Team Suite, our products help our customers’ employees get and stay engaged so they can deliver the level of service our customers envision for their guests. 

In this role, you will play a pivotal role in leading design, strategy, and vision across the organization; fundamentally you’ll help restaurants manage their teams and improve their teams’ and overall productivity using tools that represent their unique vision for leadership. Your work will span across traditional product led growth initiatives, as well as core customer- and employee-facing  surfaces and new 0-1 product experiences. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative, accessible, and engaging solutions that meet user needs and drive business growth.

 
The ideal candidate knows how to balance high craft and speed, is a passionate advocate for customer-centered design, is not afraid to dig into the metrics, is a skilled mentor who fosters a culture of creativity and experimentation. You'll work cross-functionally with product, engineering, and marketing to define overall organization strategy and inspire the team. 

About this roll* (responsibilities):

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and drive the overall product design vision for the Team Suite organization, aligning it with business goals and user needs.
  • Team Development: Build, mentor, and inspire a high-performing design team, fostering a culture of creativity, design excellence, and impact.
  • Design Excellence:  Coach team members to continually improve their craft and deliver an exceptional experience.
  • Customer Insights: Leverage qualitative and quantitative research to inform design decisions and continuously improve product experiences.
  • Metrics-Driven: Use design to drive critical business metrics and KPIs. 
  • Strong Partnership: Deeply collaborate with Product and Engineering leaders to drive the business forward and enable Toast customers to Thrive

  • You’re a proactive, outcome-oriented design leader with 7+ years experience partnering with product, engineering, and marketing to understand users, translating that understanding into strategy that drives customer and business  outcomes.
  • You’re an inspiring, empathetic leader who holds the bar high, and whose team members feel empowered to do their best work.
  • You see around corners, responding to the present and seeing the future to lead the team to create intuitive experiences across responsive web and native mobile platforms. 
  • You possess an enduring sense of curiosity with a desire to continuously learn and evolve.
  • You regularly conduct design reviews to obtain feedback, iterating on the designs to improve results.
  • Your collaborative style inspires others to the point where people ask to work with you and your expertise and confidence have others seeking out your informed perspective.
  • You have a growth mindset - you see challenges as opportunities, believe feedback is a gift and can speak confidently to the why. 
The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills and experience. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions if eligible), equity, and benefits.
Pay Range
$177,000—$283,000 USD
