The Talent Development team is dedicated to fostering growth and leadership across Toast. We believe that great managers are the "secret sauce" to a thriving culture. This summer, we are looking for a high-impact intern to help us launch and refine our next generation of manager support tools, specifically focusing on our integration with BetterUp and the operationalization of our Manager Index.

The Team

The Talent Development team is a fast-paced group focused on leadership workshops, scalable learning solutions, and manager excellence. This internship is a specialized role designed to coincide with the rollout of BetterUp as a core product. You will be at the center of a major product launch, working cross-functionally with People Analytics to move our leadership development from "intuition-based" to "data-driven."

About This Role (Responsibilities)

As the Talent Development Intern, you will focus on high-priority projects that redefine how we measure and coach our managers:

  • Manager Index Operationalization: Work to create and finalize our new "Manager Index" score. You will partner closely with the People Analytics team to ensure this metric is fully operational and provides actionable insights for our leadership.
  • AI Coach Training & Content Transfer: Act as a key partner for the BetterUp team to populate and train the AI Coach. You will support content and knowledge transfer to ensure the AI reflects Toast’s unique culture and management standards.
  • Capability Testing & Feedback Loops: Lead the testing phase of the AI Coach. You will work directly with managers to collect feedback, identifying areas for improvement to retrain and increase the capability of the AI platform.
  • Engagement & Effectiveness Analytics: Analyze engagement across our development platforms, including BetterUp and our "Leadership Lunchbox" sessions. You will develop effectiveness metrics to measure the true impact of these programs on our manager population.
  • Personalized Development Experiments: Use your data findings to experiment with new ways to deliver personalized development opportunities for our managers, ensuring they have the right resources at the right time.

Do You Have the Right Ingredients? (Requirements)

  • Ability to work onsite in Boston from June 2026 through August 2026.
  • Strong interest in Organizational Development, Talent Management, or Industrial-Organizational Psychology.
  • Analytical Aptitude: You are comfortable working with metrics and partnering with data teams to turn abstract concepts (like "leadership") into measurable data points.
  • Tech-Forward Mindset: You are excited to work directly with AI coaching platforms and understand the nuance of training AI to be a helpful, empathetic coach.
  • Relationship Management: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to gather candid feedback from busy managers and translate it into product improvements.

Detail-Oriented & Self-Driven: You thrive in a project-based role with clear milestones and the autonomy to drive a product launch to completion.

The starting pay rate for this role is below. Please note that there is no range for this role; the rate listed below is the only rate. You can learn more about how we align pay with local labor markets in our Geographic Pay Zone Philosophy.
