I’ve been a Toaster for just over 2.5 years.  I first joined as an Operations Manager and have since transitioned into my current role as a Technical Recruiter. My educational background and career started in hotels; Being so close to restaurants, the company’s mission to enrich the food experience for all quickly resonated with me.  We’re more than just another tech company; we’re a true extension of the industry we serve.

Toast is committed to career development for all Toasters. Because of our internal mobility (what we call ‘doughbility’), I felt supported in navigating a career pivot into recruiting last year.

Recruiting is a rewarding experience. I get to help my candidates find a role and manager they connect with, and I help my business groups innovate as we grow in a competitive labor market. In my conversations with prospective Toasters, it’s clear what they want: work that they’re passionate about, flexibility to handle the unpredictable demands of life, and an environment where they feel welcomed and can grow professionally.   For me, Toast delivers on all three.

In my view, what makes Toast special is our culture of seeking out and acting on feedback and the focus we have on building an organization that accurately reflects the communities we serve. Diversity isn’t just a “nice to have” for Toast, It’s critical to our success.

One of our core values that speak highly to me is to Embrace a Hospitality Mindset.  As Toasters, we’re incredibly passionate about our customers and the experiences we create. It doesn’t matter if our work impacts a job seeker, a restaurant, or an internal team. Like in the hotel industry, empathy & collaboration play prominent roles in how we operate.

“As Toasters, we’re incredibly

passionate about our customers

and the experiences we create.”

At the end of the year, I’ll be ending my time as a member of our DEI council, or CAFE  [Council of Advocates For Equity]. In this work, I collaborate with our DEI team, executive sponsors, and other Toasters across the organization to help drive our company culture and business strategy towards a more equitable and inclusive experience for everyone.

One of the many hallmarks that I am most proud of in our work is re-establishing our community for Black Toasters, Pumpernickel & Rye. P&R was established as a safe space to celebrate our wins and find support as we navigate our careers in a fast-growing company. As a recruiter, I know how intimidating the job search process can be. When working with candidates interested in learning more about the Toast Communities, such as P&R, I connect them to community members. Not only does this give them a space to ask questions outside of the interview process, but it also helps them create a network ahead of their first day.

The mission and product offering of Toast got me excited to join.  Our culture of transparency, collaboration, and professional growth are what keep me here.  The progress we’re making in democratizing technology for restaurants of all shapes and sizes motivates me to find amazing people to join our company... It helps that we’re obsessed with anything related to food too.
