Toast is building out a New Ventures business unit with the goal of researching, developing, and scaling a new generation of products and business lines that can have a substantial impact on Toast’s long-term growth. As we get ready to scale our products to all our customers we are looking to hire an Engineering Lead to grow our team and products.

As Engineering Lead with responsibility for Ads & Insights, you’ll craft and execute a technical strategy that delivers real measurable value to our customers across the world. You'll build systems & products that will help restaurants generate demand. 

You will partner and work closely with the rest of the Toast organization, as well as merchants, external ad partners, and other R&D teams to define a technology roadmap that unlocks Toast’s full potential for our customers. You will also work closely with technical leaders and implementation teams across the organization to deliver robust and scalable solutions that make a difference.

You will inspire your teams to deliver incredible outcomes by connecting their work to Toast’s broader mission. Your leadership will ensure your teams have the skills, resources, and guidance to deliver meaningful results while continuously growing their capabilities & careers.

As an engineering leader, on a given day, you will be reviewing strategic solution designs, coordinating complex delivery dependencies between partner teams, collaborating on roadmaps with architectural and product stakeholders, and conducting meaningful career-guiding 1:1s conversations.

About this roll* (Responsibilities) 

  • Lead technology strategy and execution for Toast’s Ads & Insights New Ventures team
  • Drive delivery of business outcomes across multiple teams, including planning, implementation and  operational monitoring in an efficient & effective manner
  • Collaborate closely partner teams including, Customer Care, Campaign Ops, Finance, PM and UX to ensure cross functional required are delivered 
  • Ensure quality end-to-end delivery of software, including team ownership of monitoring and production issue remediation
  • Help Architect and implement scalable and efficient solutions to solve complex business problems, specifically in the Ads Tech space.
  • Incorporate advances in software technology into our solutions to ensure we make best advantage of industry best practices.
  • Nurture team talent and support career development for your team by fostering a culture of valuing feedback, learning and growth
  • Mentor and coach both new and experienced Engineering Managers & Team Leads 
  • Hire great talent and grow teams to meet business needs

Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)

  • 6+ years of experience managing engineering teams
  • Experience building and operating software in a transactional SaaS environment
  • A bias towards action, with the ability to balance between getting things done and making things perfect
  • A proven ability to influence decision-making at all levels within an organization.
  • A strong sense of empathy for customers and teammates
  • A desire to build a diverse team that wins together and prioritizes customer success

 

Special Sauce* (Nonessential Skills/Nice to Haves)

  • Experience in an early stage technology startup
  • Experience building products from scratch is a huge plus!
  • Experience building 3rd party integrations
  • Experience in Ads Tech (working with Google Ads APIs, Meta APIs and/or TikTok APIs) is highly desirable
  • Experience in machine learning or building ML screens

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills and experience. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions, if eligible), benefits, and equity (if eligible).

Pay Range
$219,000—$350,000 USD
