Throughout the hiring process, our goal is to get to know you. We use AI tools to support our recruiters and interviewers with tasks like note-taking, summarization, and documentation to ensure they can be fully focused on your conversation. While this technology will help us provide exceptional candidate experiences, all final hiring decisions are made by people.

How We Use AI in Our Hiring Process

At Toast, we use AI thoughtfully and transparently—to support our teams and create a better candidate experience, not to replace human judgment.

Apply

When you apply to a role at Toast, your application is reviewed by real people.
We do not use AI to screen, score, or assess applications. Any technology used at this stage supports secure submission and organization of applications but not decision-making.

 

 

Initial Screening

Your experience and qualifications are reviewed by a recruiter. AI does not evaluate, rank, or make decisions about candidates. Our recruiters take the time to understand your background and what you’re looking for next.

 

 

Interview Scheduling

We may use AI to help coordinate interview logistics, like scheduling and calendar management. These tools help reduce back-and-forth emails so we can spend more time focused on meaningful conversations with you.

 

Interview

During some interviews, we use AI to record and transcribe interviews to support note-taking and documentation.

This allows our interviewers to stay fully present and engaged during your conversation.

  • Recordings are deleted after 90 days
  • You can opt out at any time
  • Opting out will not impact your candidacy
  • AI is used to support the interview experience not to assess, score, or make decisions about candidates.

 

Assessment

Any assessments used during the hiring process are reviewed by people. AI is not used to evaluate your performance or determine outcomes. Our teams focus on understanding your skills, experience, and potential through a human lens.

 

 

Evaluation

All candidate evaluations and hiring discussions are led by people. While AI may assist with summarization or documentation, final decisions are always made by Toast employees.

 

 

Offer

Offers are created, reviewed, and extended by people. AI does not influence offer decisions, compensation, or hiring outcomes.

You may use AI tools to help you prepare or improve clarity in written materials. However, we expect all submitted materials and interview responses to accurately reflect your own experience and abilities.

During live interviews and assessments, we ask that you do not use real-time AI tools to generate answers unless explicitly stated otherwise.

Our goal is to understand how you think and communicate — not how well a tool can respond on your behalf.
