An Account Executive role is right for you if you want to own your own territory and build it from scratch. As an AE, you're in the field every day: prospecting, running demos, and closing new accounts directly with retail operators. You thrive on individual ownership — your pipeline, your relationships, your wins. If you love being the one in the room closing the deal, and want to prove out a new vertical account by account, the AE seat is built for you.
A District Manager role is right for you if you want to build and lead the team doing that selling. This seat typically calls for 5+ years of sales experience in a sourcing or closing role, including 3+ years in a leadership role. As a DM, you're not carrying your own quota — you're hiring, coaching, and developing a team of Retail Account Executives, then managing the pipeline and forecasting that keeps your district on track, while partnering with product to shape how the motion scales. If you get more energy from developing people and building repeatable process than from closing your own deals, the DM seat is built for you.
