2023 Summer Intern and Co-op Spotlight

Colleen Grant

Back to school season is upon us! The Early Career team is excited to kick off our recruiting season for next spring and summer. Each year, Toast hosts interns and co-ops in roles across the business. Students from around the globe join the Toast team, where they’re able to work on meaningful, exciting projects. No one is spending their summer just going on coffee runs, unless it’s to a favorite Toast customer for an energy boost!

We had the chance to catch up with a few of the 2023 interns and co-ops to learn more about their experience. Hear what they had to say below!

What made you want to join the Toast team?

I had an interest in the Fintech space and was fascinated by Toast's success in building innovative solutions for the restaurant industry. I saw a rating with stats saying 92% of Toast employees say it's a great place to work. I felt the experience would provide me a great warm exposure to Fintech and that's exactly what I got!

“I was first introduced to Toast because my family acquired a restaurant in 2019 that was already on the Toast platform. I could clearly see the quality, thought, and care that Toast put into its restaurant products to make the staff's lives as easy as possible. That level of empathy for restaurants and guests alike shows vividly in Toast's products and services. This made me want to join Toast in their mission to streamline restaurant operations like they did for my family's restaurant.”

Mingle L., Software Engineering Intern, Northeastern University

I joined the Toast team because of their unwavering commitment to fostering a unified team environment. The profound emphasis they place on collaborative efforts and the opportunity they provide for continuous learning resonated deeply with me, particularly as I ventured into this new and exciting field.

What was your favorite part of working at Toast?

My favorite part of working at Toast has been interacting and learning from my team. I felt challenged and uplifted through my interactions with every individual. I feel lucky in that I feel I have made the biggest impact not only through my work, but also through Toast.org, Toast’s philanthropic branch.

Kevin S, Software Engineering Intern, Georgia Institute of Technology

I joined the Toast team because I really enjoyed my interview experience, and I resonated with the company goals. My favorite part was interacting with the amazing individuals and customers! Gabriella T., Software Engineering Intern, California Institute of Technology

During my internship, I was exposed to diverse experiences and various aspects of product marketing. In just 10 weeks, I was seamlessly integrated into my team, received the necessary resources and support to feel capable and accomplished, and gained impactful skills. The level of empowerment I experienced allowed me to explore and expand my skills while also being entrusted with meaningful responsibilities. Kateryn K. MBA Summer Associate, Product Marketing, University of Washington- Foster School of Business

What advice would you give to another student considering joining Toast?

Every single day is a learning opportunity, and don’t be afraid to take on the most daunting tasks! Your team is there to support you, and Toast wants to see you grow!

Nolan M, Software Engineer Co-op, Northeastern University

I would advise any students considering joining Toast to learn more about the value that Toast provides to customers as well as to get involved in Toast.org when you do join Toast– you will love it!
