The India office openings in Chennai and Bangalore are etched in the history of Toast and the memories of all the Toasters who participated! Teammates from the United States and Dublin travelled to India to help us celebrate the opening of our newest offices.
Welcome Week was filled with informative and exciting events. Tech leaders from across the business hosted discussions to help us align on goals and plan future efforts. We focused on building our community by doing a deep-dive into our values and volunteering in our local neighborhoods. And of course, we enjoyed delicious meals together throughout the week!
Tuesday was the start of the office-wide events. We started the day with a hearty breakfast spread at the cafeteria - “Toast’s Rasoi.” The space was formally opened with the traditional lamp lighting and ribbon cutting by the visiting and local leaders and gleeful cheers by all the Toasters.
The team then jumped right into an All Hands in the town hall where Toasters were absolutely smitten by Toast’s journey narrated by Toast co-founders Aman N. and Steve F. The session ended with some intriguing questions from the India team and Toasty answers from leaders across the board.
Throughout the rest of the day, Toasters engaged in coffee chats with leaders from various business units and geographies. It was a great way to understand how we all come together to tell the Toast story!
We also enjoyed the much-awaited SpiceCon, where leaders from other organizations within the Indian business community and tech space gathered for knowledge sharing with Toasters. The day started with lamp lighting by our co-founders, and continued with engaging panel discussions. The topics of discussion included building tech hubs in India, recruiting top talent, and the overall restaurant landscape in India.
After two long and eventful days, the third and final day of the welcome week in the office was a colourful festivity where Toasters gathered in the spirit of Diwali. The office space was decked up for the Hindu festival and so were all the Toasters!
We also had a fusion Diwali dessert counter setup and Welcome and Diwali gifts for all Toasters to add more sweetness to the celebration.
We all enjoyed a session called “Let’s Get Toasty” - a breakout discussion with leaders on the company’s values. We all iterated our version of the values and connected them to deep-rooted Indian culture and practices. We could see how each and every Toaster was appreciative and supportive of their colleagues and enjoyed working in the environment fostered by the company globally.
The Welcome Week would have been absolutely incomplete without Toast.org, Toast’s philanthropic branch, and ToastHer, our community for women at Toast. Our chapter of ToastHer had its first official discussion during lunch led by Susan R. from Toast.org and Jyoti T., Senior Salesforce Developer. Toasters then went on to pack 100 wellness kits for women associated with a local non-profit. In a later event, Toasters gathered and packed another 250 school supplies for underprivileged kids of a government school which were later distributed by our teammates.
Toasters visiting from the US and Dublin above all had a gala time at the India offices where they plunged into the Indian culture completely - took infinite tuk-tuk rides, wore sarees, suits and sherwanis, dorned gajra (flower garland), got henna tattoos done and much more!
I could not have asked for a better week celebrating the future of Toast. Are you looking for a team where you’ll be able to make an impact and learn from some of the best minds in the business? We’re hiring! Check out our open positions here!
